Facts for 2022:
- Final record: 12-5 (including 0-1 in the playoffs).
- Our runs for average dipped slightly over last year (18.9 vs 19.8). Still very respectable.
- Our runs against average continues to improve with a drop of almost 20% over last year (12.7 vs 15.8). This is our 4th consecutive year with our RAA dropping. Let’s keep it going for next year.
- This is the first year where all 13 regular players had a batting average above 0.500. Well done
- I know we’re all getting older but what’s with all the running injuries?! Joel (calf), Cary (calf), Adam (hamstring), Mark (hamstring), Sheldon (hamstring). There’s this cutting edge technique I just heard about that I think we should all start doing. I think it’s called s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g.
- We had 8 pitchers this year (including Eitan). Shoutout to Bobby who had a respectable 2-1 record although we know he’s more of a receiver than a giver. Also, hat’s off to the rest of you who gave it a go: Ilan, Kevin, Mark, and Ryan.
- We all know that if you strikeout, you need to buy a pitcher of beer (not all of us pay up though, cough, cough, Jerrod). However, we have revised this and have now introduced The Kurtzie named after the baseball player, Hal Kurtz (real guy, look it up). No, actually you guessed it, it’s named after our own Robert Kurtz who struck out AND hit a grand slam in the same game. And if you think that’s rare, think again because your dear statistician friend (Sheldon) also did that in a subsequent game. Needless to say, if that happens you don’t buy beer.
- Speaking of homeruns – Ilan had two games where he hit 3 homeruns. Not only that but he hit 11 homeruns in his last 5 games. I’ll have what he’s having.
- The Lefler brothers stepped up with some great defense this year. Marc who played an outstanding centrefield and Adam, playing shortstop, who made this crazy diving, spinning around on his back and throwing out a guy at first. Although I seem to remember another play with Adam at 2nd base which wasn’t as good but I digress.
- Cary improved his batting average by 65% over last year finishing the year at 0.643 (spoiler alert: he finished 3rd). Pretty damn impressive.
- MLB is getting rid of the shift next year. Just saying.
